Pocari Sweat x TOKUSHIMA VORTIS
Football Dream Project
From the Gulf Cup to Japan – A New Chapter for Young Athletes
The Dream Project Middle East is where ambition meets opportunity. Born from the shared vision of Otsuka Pharmaceutical and Tokushima Vortis Football Club, this initiative was created to do more than train footballers — it was designed to inspire a generation. By combining sport, health, and cultural exchange, the Dream Project proves that when young athletes sweat for success, their dreams can transcend borders.
How It All Began
The Dream Project is part of the “POCARI SWEAT × TOKUSHIMA VORTIS “
”Football Dream Project”, first launched in 2022.
Its purpose is simple yet powerful:
- Promote football and healthy lifestyles across Asia and the Middle East.
- Provide young players with professional training and international opportunities.
- Strengthen cultural ties while supporting local communities in Tokushima, Japan — home of Otsuka and Tokushima Vortis.
About Tokushima Vortis Football Club
Tokushima Vortis is more than a football club — it is the beating heart of Tokushima Prefecture. Born in 1955 as Otsuka Pharmaceutical’s company team and reborn in 2004 as a professional J.League club, Vortis carries with it the spirit of Tokushima’s famous whirlpools — powerful, dynamic, and always moving forward.
Playing at Pocari Sweat Stadium, the club is deeply rooted in its community, championing youth development and opening doors for international exchange. For young athletes who come to train here, Tokushima Vortis is not just a team to watch — it is a family to learn from, a culture to embrace, and a glimpse into what it truly means to live as a professional footballer.
For the Middle East, the timing was perfect. Pocari Sweat has been part of the region since 1983, and in 2024 we celebrated 40 years by hosting the first-ever POCARI SWEAT Gulf Cup. With over 1,200 teams and 15 nationalities, it became the largest youth football tournament of its kind in the Gulf. From this competition, three U-14 standout players were chosen to take their next big step: two weeks of professional training in Japan.

Beyond Football
Culture & Inspiration
The Dream Project isn’t just about what happens on the pitch. Growth comes from new experiences, and in Tokushima the players discovered Japan’s spirit and traditions
- Adventure: Crossing the Kazurabashi Bridge and rafting Tokushima’s rivers.
- Tradition: Hands-on learning at an indigo dye workshop.
- Culture: Joining the famous Awa Odori Dance and riding the Bizan Ropeway
- Heritage: Visiting the Otsuka Museum of Art.
- Recognition: Meeting the Governor of Tokushima, a symbol of the project’s impact.
- Reflection: Ending the trip with a tour of Osaka Castle and Dotonbori, reflecting on how far they had come.
What It Meant for the Players
They left the Gulf as talented young footballers.
They returned from Japan as something more.
In Tokushima, they discovered that football was not just about scoring goals — it was about discipline, resilience, and heart. Long training days tested their limits, but each challenge taught them to rise stronger. The warmth of the Japanese people reminded them that kindness can be as powerful as skill.
And when they walked onto the field at Pocari Sweat Stadium, hearing the roar of thousands, they felt a spark — the realization that their dreams were no longer distant. They were within reach.
Their parents saw it too. They spoke with pride of how their children came back different: more mature, more confident, and more determined. What began as a football program had become a life-changing journey — one that gave these boys not just stronger legs, but stronger spirits.
This was more than a trip.
It was the moment their dreams grew wings.
